Blocking progress- last check

Hi Victor, thanks for letting us get this last blog post. Here's some progress that I got with the shot I started at the end of class. I had a couple questions, first one is I was wondering how the mechanics felt to you? I took video reference, but some parts felt a little dull going off the reference poses so I pushed them and played with the poses; but was curious now if it felt believable. Also is the milk spilling in the beginning distracting at all?

Pantomime polishing & Bonus idea

Also I developed the bonus assignment idea.
This is the 2nd idea which is a boy scout who chases some creature.
I think the first idea (contrast characters obstacle jump on a circus train) is for physic and third one (listening bad news from a doctor) is for acting.
However, in this time I want to work on both physic and acting, which led me to work on 2nd idea.
This is just layout.
If I am going wrong direction, please let me know.

WIP PANTOMIME SHOT

Hello everyone,

Here is my pantomime shot.
This is still rough and not very smooth, but I would like to make sure about the beats and timings.
I added the shaking her chest part because I felt that part was too static and stiff if she just squeezed and hold her chest for a while.

Technical question - Clusters

Hi all, quick technical question.  I've created a series of clusters in maya to get some additional control in the face, problem is that the clusters are not moving with the rig.  They are staying in the exact position that they were created in which makes them impossible to use.  I selected my vertices using the paint selection tool, went up to 'create deformers > cluster (with relative checked)'.  This has worked in the past but for some reason it's behaving oddly this time.  Any help would be appreciated, hope everyone shots are going well...

Hi Victor, how are you?  The first one is the Madeline Kahn shot, 2nd is the one with a bit of a staging problem.  On the second I'd be open to repositioning the table, secondary character but the camera and main character would be a little harder to make big changes too.  Thank you so much, see you Wednesday...

50 shades blocking2

Hello Victor, hello class,

Here's my 2nd pass blocking.   syncsketch clip

So following your feedbacks last Wednesday I went for something where she feels more like she's toying with him and then sadistic. The subtext I animated with, on the 2nd part of the dialogue, was like you said " Now you're gonna get it, I can believe you said that"

Do things read ? Am I going in the right direction ?

I also made him more focused on her and react to the whip.

I am not sure how I should end the shot though... should I cut on the guy's reaction or should I have him trying to get away (like what I have now)

I have lowered the head for the patient. I have separated the phrasing for the lamp push from the head movement. I have also added a little more of the characters chest from screen left. I attempted to frame the character like in this drawing:

but with the perspective of the shot it proved impossible.  I an open to any an all ideas to solve that. I would like to know if the timing works before i go in and add on top of it.

Prank shot

Hello Everyone,


So I got these ideas while working on the new shot. here's the audio clip


I wanted to play the idea that you're not sure what's going on at first other than she looks scary as hell.

"Are we taking this too far ?" the entrance bell just rang she reaches for the entrance door
The guys in the background seems uncertain.

"i don't think we're taking this far enough ! "
So she switches the light off, now flickering

A kid is there asking "trick or treats?" (no dialogue, just the kid reaction)









That would mean adding in the future another 2 sec shot of the kids reaction.

This 2nd idea isn't about a prank anymore, but more about the contrast of this 2 characters. I like the idea of having the guy in a ridiculous situation he's not comfortable with.

Do you like one of these ideas or should I stick with the prank idea we talked about last week ?

Pantomime shot

Hey Victor and class,

Here are a few options I roughed out for possible beginnings for my shot, to better give the reason behind the knife being in the scene. The new beginning poses are still rough, it's mainly just to get the idea across to see what might be the best option.

This first option has the knife as a paring knife, so thats why she has the apple in the beginning too. Also why I'm leaning towards this one is that I like the idea of having her eating lunch by herself in a bathroom stall to push that notion of who she is and her backstory.

The second idea is still pretty rough but the idea is that she would be scratching out some writing that was wrote about her on the bathroom stall wall.

pantomime shot idea

Hi Victor and class, here is my rough drawing for pantomime shot. I'll re-draw it later. The idea is that she (a beginner driver) is trying to drive while affected by her boy friend sitting next her. He keeps correcting the way she drives. (only his hands will show in the shot) He will correct the way she grabs the handle and the distance between her and handle. I thought his existence can be considered as external circumstance for her but if it's not, please let me know. The reason why I came up with this idea is that I thought it's funny to see one person trying to do something while the other person trying to correct him/her. (her in this case) she has to go through internal struggle, frustration, and gets annoyed by the other person and I thought this can be a interesting idea for pantomime shot. and I thought inside of a car can be a good stage to show one's emotional change well because the space is small. Thank you for your help.

Pantomime ideas

Hey all, here are 3 ideas I had for the pantomime shot.

Shot 1 is the same shot that I had for the expression change but accidentally went overboard with what was actually needed for the assignment, and figured I could save it for now. I held onto some poses longer now since I get 7 seconds as opposed to the 3 seconds it originally had.

Shot 2 is at first the same as shot 1 but with a different second half and a little bit of a different take.

Shot 3 is another idea I had. I'm leaning the least towards this one because the majority of shots I've done lately have been more on the comedic side. Thats why I had two darker shots that I'm thinking of doing, but I'm throwing this in just to see if maybe this is more preferred. The guys poses are still really rough I just wanted to pitch the idea first. The gist of it is about a guy and a girl getting ready to go out and the guy has been ready and is waiting for his girlfriend to finish getting ready. She's taking forever and he's just been waiting at the door.

1) Anchor

I am worried about the time.

This might take more time as you expected for selling the idea. (I don't want to make the same mistake as I did before...)

I plan to add some dialogues at storyboard No. 4. (like "HELP!!!!!")
